In a landmark moment for Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) movement, Zeekr officially launched the 7X SUV locally, marking a bold entry into the the premium EV segment. As of 22 August 2025, Malaysians now have access to a high-performance, 800V-architecture EV that stakes claim against rivals such as Tesla’s Model Y and BYD’s Sealion 7.
The Zeekr 7X is more than just another EV. It brings together design, tech, performance, and utility in a package tailored for modern drivers:
800-Volt Architecture & Fast Charging
Thanks to its high-voltage system, the 7X supports ultra-fast DC charging. One variant (the base) claims 10–80 % charging in just 10.5 minutes, while others settle around 16 minutes for the same range span.
Power & Range Options
There are three versions in Malaysia:
RWD Standard — 75 kWh LFP battery, single rear motor, WLTP range ≈ 480 km
RWD Long Range — 100 kWh NMC battery, same motor but extended range ≈ 615 km
AWD Performance — dual motors, higher power and torque, WLTP range ≈ 543 km, 0-100 km/h in ~3.8 seconds
Tech & Interior Features
The cabin is built to impress. Highlights include a cluster of screens (digital instrument, mini-LED, AR-HUD), voice assistant, OTA updates, and a 21-speaker premium sound system. Luxury touches abound: Nappa leather, climate control zones, power seating, and ambient lighting.
Exterior & Touches of Drama
The 7X sports frameless doors, a “Hidden Energy” design philosophy, aerodynamic fine-tuning, and even the potential of a “Stargate” front LED display in the performance model variant.
Warranty and Launch Perks
Zeekr Malaysia backs the 7X with 5 years / 150,000 km vehicle warranty, 8 years / 160,000 km battery warranty, and bonus items like a 22 kW wallbox charger and solar film for early buyers.
Launching at a competitive edge, the Zeekr 7X starts from RM 179,800 for the base variant. The Long Range version is priced at RM 190,800, while the AWD Performance variant pushes the top-end to RM 226,800.
Interestingly, for the first 500 customers, Zeekr Malaysia is offering preferential pricing — a savvy move to crystallize brand loyalty among early adopters.
Right after the launch, Zeekr began delivering the first few units to customers in Malaysia via its local partner, Carro. Buyers received their vehicles at Zeekr’s Bangsar outlet. This “first wave” marks the beginning of the 7X’s presence on Malaysia’s roads.
Public test drives were also made available during the launch weekend at KL Tower, allowing potential buyers and EV enthusiasts to experience the vehicle up close.
As the 7X begins plying highways and city streets, expect conversations around its real-world efficiency, charging infrastructure compatibility, and ownership experience to dominate tech and automotive circles.
While the 7X certainly raises eyebrows, its success will depend on more than just specs. Some of the challenges it must navigate:
Charging Infrastructure
Malaysia’s EV charging network still has gaps, especially for ultra-fast DC stations. Even with 800V support, drivers need reliable access to make full use of the 7X’s capabilities.
Real-World Range vs WLTP Claims
As always, WLTP figures represent idealized conditions. In hot tropical climates, with air conditioning, highway speeds, and battery temperature effects, real range will likely be lower.
Servicing & Parts Availability
As a relatively new EV brand locally, Zeekr will need to ensure strong service coverage and parts logistics to build trust among Malaysians.
Competition & Incentives
Competitors like Tesla, BYD, and even local automakers are vying for EV buyers. Government policies (incentives, EV taxes, electricity tariffs) will play a huge role in shaping consumer decisions.
The arrival of the Zeekr 7X is symbolic. It shows that premium EV brands see Malaysia not just as a peripheral market but as a growing frontier. With its mix of high voltage tech, luxury features, and competitive pricing, the 7X raises the bar.
If Zeekr can deliver on reliability, support, and a compelling ownership experience, it could help push Malaysia further along in EV adoption. For consumers, it offers a new option—one that blends performance and future-looking features over just the basic “green car” promise.
The Zeekr 7X’s launch is a strong statement of intent. It challenges existing EV players and offers Malaysians a glimpse of what next-gen electric motoring can feel like. Yet, its long-term success will depend on how well it lives up to its promises on roads, in garages, and across charging stations.
